Thankful Thirty-Day 1

I went back to look and this is the fourth year in a row that I've done a Thankful Thirty.   Somehow that makes me feel old.

We're debt free!!

Every tax return, every pay raise, every bit of extra money has been paid towards our student loans for the last six years.    Then last November when our car completely died (again) after replacing the transmission, we took out a loan to buy a car.  Arg.  More debt.

But this week all that has changed.  We handed in the last $1000 check for the car and declared ourselves completely, totally, absolutely debt free.  Just in the last year, we have paid off $25,000.   Mostly car and student loans, but also the relocation to Houston and a new $4,000 transmission for the stupid Subaru.  Worst $4000 I ever spent.

It's been a lot of hard work and sacrifice.  We've watched friends take awesome, expensive vacations, buy nice cars, smartphones, cool gadgets  and hire maids.  There have been times when it's been tough and I've thought that maybe it doesn't matter if we have a little debt.  But I am so glad that we stuck it out and worked hard.  Such a relief.   Now all of our money is OUR MONEY!   We have been so incredibly blessed.
