Handmade Christmas: Neighbor Gifts

Last year we put together "Muffins in a Jar" for all of our neighbors. Unfortunately, we didn't taste the recipe before we gave it away and found out later-when we tried it our ourselves-that it was incredibly dry. Zak says they tasted okay with milk, but I had a hard time eating them.

Lesson learned. Too bad we can't redeem ourselves this year.

We didn't want our new neighbors to get a bad impression, so Saturday night we relaxed from our crazy week by having a hot cocoa taste testing marathon. In the end, this is the mix that we came up with (it fits into a pint size canning jar).
In order for pretty layers-from the bottom up:
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder (baking cocoa)
1/3 cup powdered sugar
3 T crushed peppermint
fill the rest of the bottle with marshmallows

Add a little tag with these instructions: Mix contents of the jar in a large mixing bowl. Scoop 3 TBSP cocoa mix in a mug and stir in 1 cup warm milk. Pour remaining mix back into jar. The worst part of neighbor gifts? Delivering them in the snow! Ugh.
