Don't speak, I know just what you're saying...

Yesterday Jakson finally hit a milestone that most kids come to at a much younger age-his first word!!! That's right, he hasn't said anything (well, nothing that makes any sense) until now. In fact, the pediatrician has referred him to a speech therapist because of his speech delay. It has never really worried me because, A-he's a boy and B-he's much more interested in other things, like becoming the world's youngest stunt double. I just assumed that he'd make a really terrible boyfriend later in life. But yesterday any fears I may have had were alleviated when he said (drum roll please)...."CAR"-he will lead a normal life! Thanks to Holly for letting us borrow this toy because Jak's first word was in reference to it. My mom's comment when I told her was that it is a "manly" word. That must make Zak feel good-although he was really rooting for his first word to be "Kevin Bacon."

In other news-Jakson received a helium balloon at the grocery store on Saturday night-his first balloon encounter. I never realized that a balloon could bring so many minutes of enjoyment and play. Too bad it was rolling on the ground by the next morning :(

Balloons rock! We get them at the dollar store--they are the mylar ones. We have one that is still floating left over from EJ's bday (almost a month ago).

Congrats on the first word!!

That's exciting about the first word. It can be a good & bad thing though--Luke didn't say a thing and then one day he decided to talk and now he NEVER shuts up. Oh, and the free Ralphs balloons (with the lollipops tied to the strings) are the ONLY reason we make it through grocery shopping these days. If they run out I make the bagger guy go back to the helium tank and make us some--they are critical!!! We would starve otherwise, I'm sure.

Doesn't that feel like a relief? Ethan was speech delayed too and had evaluations done and everything. Then about 3 months ago he suddenly blossomed and now he talks ALL the time! Makes me think of the book "Leo the Late Bloomer". His sister on the other hand is going to be quite the gabber! Must be a girl thing.

it's funny how boys are. my little niece has been chatting for what seems like forever. then my little gavin, who is 9 months older, totally struggles. he talks much better now, but like you, i never really worried. heck, he was walking from a really young age.
